EV adoption is reshaping the automotive industry and driving sustainability
Insights from our Accelerating Fleet Decarbonisation report
Between 2018 to 2023 EV car sales surged by more than 600%, a testament to the rising demand for sustainable mobility solutions. The global shift towards electric vehicles (EVs) is transforming the automotive landscape at an unprecedented pace.

EV production is increasing
As consumer interest in EVs continues to grow, automakers are rapidly scaling up production to keep pace. Each of the world’s top 10 original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) is either already offering or will soon introduce at least one EV model in every vehicle class, ensuring a range of options for different driver needs.
Luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz are leading the charge, aiming to achieve a 100% electric vehicle lineup by 2030. Similarly, BMW and Ford project that by the same year, half of their vehicle offerings will be electric.
This ramp-up in production will not only increase competition, it will but foster innovation in the evolving EV market. As a result, economies of scale are being realised, driving down costs and making EVs more accessible to more businesses and consumers.
EV transition planning
For companies and fleet managers preparing to transition to EVs, a well-structured change management plan is essential.
This plan should serve as a roadmap, clearly outlining the organisation’s vision for electrification and how it will engage with key stakeholders throughout the process.
A detailed strategy should include:
- Updated fleet policies
- An EV deployment plan
- A process for monitoring progress, and;
- An assessment of the impact on operations and sustainability goals
Begin with a pilot program
Many companies begin their EV adoption journey with smaller-scale pilot programs. These test deployments provide valuable insights into how EVs perform in real-world conditions, offering critical data on operating costs, vehicle range, and charging infrastructure needs.
A pilot program can also play a key role in building confidence and securing internal stakeholder buy-in, which is vital for successful large-scale transitions.
According to fleet managers from the Electric Automotive Group Alliance (EAGA), test programs were pivotal in securing broader support for full-scale EV rollouts.
Learnings from a pilot program can demonstrate the practicality of EVs, proving that the shift to electric mobility is both feasible and beneficial.
A strategic electrification plan is a must
As the EV market expands, businesses must embrace a proactive and strategic approach to electrification.
A thoughtful, well-executed transition plan will enable companies to not only benefit from the cost savings and operational efficiencies of EVs but also contribute significantly to global decarbonisation efforts.
