Custom Fleet sponsors 2023 World LGBTIQ+ Conference for Criminal Justice Professionals in Melbourne
In February 2023, Victoria Police hosted the 2023 World LGBTIQ+ Conference for Criminal Justice Professionals in Melbourne.
The first World LGBTIQ+ Conference for Criminal Justice Professionals was hosted by the Dutch National Police in 2016. The conference has been growing each year with criminal justice professionals from at least 26 countries now participating.
Custom Fleet’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging strategy aligns closely with topics discussed at the conference. Our Pride team is one of the streams of our Diversity Network, Intersection. Their work led to the opportunity to sponsor esteemed keynote speaker Christine Nixon (first female Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police).
Two of our Business Leaders – Katie Haywood and Katherine Westren – attended the conference to represent Custom Fleet and support our customers, Victoria Police.
The level of personal commitment from attendees across the globe was inspiring, reflecting the hard work and ongoing activism required to lead change for good. It was clear by listening to the guest speakers that each person had found incredible ways to make a difference to the lives of the LGBTIQ+ community.
During her keynote speech, Christine Nixon shared insights from her long career within the police force and her passion for standing up for marginalised people. The wider impact of Christine’s work was both thought provoking and challenging – leaving each participant motivated to take action. It was also clear that Christine is an inspiration for women in the workforce, rising to the top within a male dominated industry.
Katie and Kath were also honoured to meet Danielle Bottineau, a Toronto Police Officer who believes that education is the key to driving change and helping to meet the needs of LGBTIQ+ communities. Danielle was pivotal in bringing the World conference to Toronto in 2019 and has a TED talk focused on challenging the assumptions of identity.
